Very short and no pictures.

I think there are several Kindle versions of this "pamphlet" out there on Amazon. I ended up purchasing this one, and was surprised that the story was so short (guess I should have read the product information more carefully). Interesting, but short. I have to warn others that this version mentions the "upcoming" photographs, then never delivers. There were no photographs at all in this version for Kindle, which was very disappointing.

'Old Lanai' - a True Ghost Story from the most...

... isolated of the - accessible - Hawai'ian Islands.
(The island of Niʻihau, in private possesion is generally off-limits to all but relatives of the island's owners, U.S. Navy personnel, government officials and invited guests, giving it the nickname "The Forbidden Isle".)
A Japanese couple, Tanaka and Michiko travel to Lana'i, and are making trips to the most remote places of the island. A Keamoku visiting a abandoned church they find under a cracked floorboard an antique camera and a badly worn leather briefcase. Inside they discover some crackled pens, an old map of Lana'i and a writing journal signed by a certain Warren S. Croft.
What follows is the diary of Professor Croft who went on horseback in 1940 to this most remote and abandoned place of the whole island of Lana'i to be never seen again. No one ever found him, or his belongings or the horse. Everyone assumed that the horse had run out of control and so they plunged off one of the many seaside bluffs and drowned...
This diary now, together with some strange fotos from the camera, shall give a totally different explanation to the disappearance of the poor Professor...

I found the informations of Hawai'i and especially the situation of Lana'i very interesting, as this island too has been in private possession of the Dole Fruit Company and is called "The Pineapple Isle".

In June 2012, Oracle Corporation agreed to purchase 98 percent share of the island. The state owns the remaining 2 percent. The sale price was not revealed, but the Maui News previously reported the asking price was between $500 million and $600 million. Oracle reportedly plans to invest as much as another $500 million to add to and improve the island's infrastructure and to create an environmentally-friendly agricultural industry. At the beginning there are most of all travel notes jotted down by the Professor. Then the ghost story's tension is slowly increasing - almost always a bit vague - but leaves enough freedom to the imagination of the reader to fill in the voids left by the author...
For me personally a very satisfactory read - a mixture between history and fantasy.
And I will surely buy the extended version, too!

A short read but interesting.

This book was a very short read but was also very interesting. I guess it could happen, certainly left me thinking about it. Hope to go to Lanai' at some point on one of our trips to Maui.
